The conference was co-organized by the Childwatch Key Institution the Caribbean Child Development Centre of the University of the West Indies (UWI). The multidisciplinary conference covered children's issues across many countries of the English speaking Caribbean. The several themes included children in violent circumstances, children and HIV/AIDS, parenting, child rights and policy planning, child health and nutrition and development. The Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Research, also from the UWI, was the other host, and the conference was being supported by UNICEF, Jamaica, along with a number of other collaborating agencies. There was active participation from a CARICOM (Caribbean Community) Youth Ambassadors panel, and from Jamaican school children.

Around 20-25 researchers participated in the workshop, from different Arab regions (Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Gulf area, Oman, Yemen) with little expertise and experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research. The participants were selected based on their interest in research, specifically child research methodologies, and all of them worked in organizations dedicated to children (fully or partially). The workshop was lead by Dr. Mohammed Shahin, with a guest appearance by Dr. Faisal Awartani, and revolved around the methodologies of child research.

The conference  "Child Participation: Together We Decide"  will be held on January 10th 2011 in Cairo. Policy experts, practitioners, researchers and representatives of institutions with child-participatory initiatives from the Middle Eastern, North African and Mediterranean regions will exchange and present evidence-based researches, case studies and successful practices.

In 2010 the members of the global Child Protection Working Group agreed on the need for child protection standards in humanitarian settings. The Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action were developed between January 2011 and September 2012. The process of drafting the Minimum Standards involved over 400 individuals from 30 agencies in over 40 countries, including child protection practitioners, humanitarian actors from other sectors, academics and policy makers.

IRC has partnered with DevInfo in the development of the CFC DevInfo assessment and monitoring toolkit. This is designed to help implementing countries automate database management on Child Friendly Cities (CFC). It is based on the CFC assessment toolkit and indicators developed through the CFC research initiative (http://www.childfriendlycities.org/en/research). It comprises: (a) community assessment indicators (derived from the CFC community assessment tools) and (b) CFC objective indicators (derived from other administrative surveys). The toolkit consists of DevInfo templates and Data Capture sheets. The DevInfo templates and Data Capture sheets can be customized and managed by cities or countries that wish to collect data on children's living conditions and child well-being in local settings.
