Thematic groups consist of researchers from different regions that work together to identify and investigate major questions of global significance in the lives of children. Thematic groups link local, regional and national research efforts and academic work to policy and practice. The results of the work in these groups have the potential to improve the international research based knowledge, practice and policy on children’s issues. The Board and the Key Institutions are continually assessing global trends in order to initiate study groups on the most crucial issues.

A Handbook of Children and Young People's Participation, edited by Barry Percy-Smith and Nigel Thomas, includes discussions on challenges facing issues of participation, contextual aspects, as well as theoretical and methodological reflections about projects and practice. The book includes chapters by prominent members of the Childwatch International Research Network.
The Childwatch International thematic group on Children and the Law are distributing a questionnaire to all Key Institutions to map children's participation in family law processes related to post-separation care arrangements internationally. This is the second phase of a larger international comparative study on children and the law. We encourage all Key Institutions to contribute to the study!
Stewart Asquith, highly respected partner, colleague and friend, passed away 13 April. We are very sorry to have lost an important resource to the international academic child rights community and to the Childwatch International Research network.
The Institut Universitaire Kurt Bösch (IUKB) and the University of Fribourg Switzerland are organising an International Conference;Localizing Children's Rights; on Saturday 15 November 2008. The conference aims to contrast ideas and concepts as well as to facilitate an exchange of information between researchers,professionals and students working in the interdisciplinary children's rights field.
Building a Region Fit for Children: Promoting Child Rights Through Research is the title of the third annual Caribbean Child Research Conference, to be held in Jamaica 21 - 22 October. Researchers, policy makers and practitioners will meet to discuss the role of research in strengthening children's rights in the region.

This study group aimed at exploring the kinds of trouble often associated with young boys and the way this trouble is handled according to discourses of trouble and conflict and discourse of masculinity and about growing up in different parts of the world.
Childwatch International initiated the consultancy arrangement in 2001 to strengthen its role in capacity building between insitutitions within the network. The mission of the Childwatch International consultancy is to strenghten the capacity of child research within the Key Institutions of the network.
The initiative was first introduced in 2000, to strengthen Palestinian child research community through international cooperation. This was done in several ways, both by consolidating and strengthening the inner structures of the Palestinian research community and by opening up for international information and academic exchange.
Participants in the partnership were The Palestinian Child Research Group (PCRG), including a multi-disciplinary team of researchers and professors from Al Quds University and other institutions, the Norwegian Centre for Child Research (NOSEB) and Norwegian Social Research (NOVA).
The MENA Network has worked in partnership with Childwatch International and NOVA from Norway, Bayti Establishment (NGO in Morocco), Chapin Hall Center for Children at the University of Chicago, Dartington Social Research Center (UK), Center for Development in Primary Health Care/AlQuds University, and Hope Village in Egypt, plus other regional and local organizations.
During the years 2000-2003, the Key Institutions Institute on Family and Neighborhood Life (USA) and Center for Family Environments (the Czech Republic) worked in partnership focusing on Indicators on Children's Well-Being.
The Latin American Partnership Program (2001 - 2004) was a cooperation between the Childwatch International Key institutions CENDIF in Venezuela, CIESPI in Brazil and CINDE in Colombia. The Partnership elaborated a common platform for research collaboration on the Latin American continent within the theme of children growing up in contexts of poverty, marginalization and violence.
The International Institute for Child Rights and Development brings children’s rights to life as outlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in the context of development using innovative research, education and capacity building that draws on the strengths of children, their families, communities and culture.
The creation of the BCTR in 2011 represents a consolidation and expansion of programs and resources previously housed in the Family Life Development Center and the Bronfenbrenner Life Course Center.
The Center will foster research to understand and discover solutions to human problems across multiple levels of analysis (individual, interpersonal, community, organizational, governmental), as well as to identify, evaluate, and disseminate evidence-based and cost-efficient practices and programs. The BCTR will also focus on research that informs policy issues and debates. Further, the Center will engage stakeholders at the local, state, and national levels in more effective partnerships with CHE researchers. In these efforts, the Center responds to the call in the University Strategic Plan to “strongly connect extension and outreach to on-campus research and educational strengths.”
Established in 1991 to increase the number of lawyers working in children's rights, the Programme on International Rights of the Child was the first university based centre on the international rights of the child.
Established in 2003, Institute for Labour and Family Research – ILFR (formerly Centre for Work and Family Studies) has research work as its main activity. It is focused on the sociological study in the field of social and family policy, labour market and employment policy, industrial relations and working conditions and in the field of occupational safety and health. Current priorities are social protection and support for young researchers.
NEREC was established with the assistance of the World Bank in the year 2000 in the Faculty of Education, University of Colombo. The main objective of the NEREC is to be engaged in Research in the field of Education and provide advice to Education planners. Educational Testing, Evaluation and Training are its other functions.
The Institute is a central academic organization which takes a main role on child and family researching and teaching. Also, the Institute is a center on gathering data related to child behavior and development as well as giving advices and policy recommendations for the government and social movement agencies. Moreover, the Institute acts for knowledge distribution for children, family and academic institutions in order to serve all dimensions of development and support our children to be the qualified person in nearest future.
RAINBO is an organisation working on issues within the intersection between health and human rights of women, and its ultimate goal is to promote and protect the reproductive and sexual health and rights of women and girls. The Institute of Child Care Research invited interested researchers and practitioners to a conference that focused on the connection between research, research results and the use of these results in child care practice. Key Note addresses were made by Prof. Rob Chaskin from the Chapin Hall Program for Children's Policy Research at the University of Chicago and Celia Atherton OBE, Director at Research in Practice.
