“Criminality or Social Exclusion? International Perspectives”

The International Juvenile Justice Observatory is pleased to announce that the 5th Biennial Conference will be held at the London 2012 Olympic Park on Monday 5 to Wednesday 7 November 2012.

The conference aims to address the reality that, as a result of social and economic polarisation and global financial crises, growing numbers of children, young people and parents are finding themselves located in areas of concentrated social disadvantage on the margins of society where involvement in the criminal justice system.

The convention will bring together over 500 people from more than 50 countries to discuss the impact of global crises on justice available to children and young people. Keynote speakers will include:

  • Dr. Marta Santos Pais, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Violence against Children.
  • Prof. Dr. Jean Zermatten, Chair of the United Nations' Committee on the Rights of the Child.
  • Prof. Dr. John Hagedorn, University of Illinois, Chicago – USA.
  • Chuka Umunna MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills.
  • John Drew, The Youth Justice Board in England and Wales – UK.
