A post conference website has been established. Through the website you can access a summary report, the conclusions from the different round tables and a Call for Action.
The study "Child Poverty and Disparities in Egypt: Building the Social Infrastructure for Egypt's future", the first comprehensive study in Egypt which focuses on both poverty and childhood, was launched on February 16th.
'Children's Rights and Globalization. From Principles to Practice'. The training course is an interdisciplinary and international programme which attracts a diverse range of participants from all over the world. It will be led by key experts in the field. The focus throughout will be both theoretical and applied.
Call for abstracts on Place-based learning: Connecting children, youth and their communities.
Research has shown that place-based education has many benefits for participants, including improvements in learning and well-being. Place-based approaches can also contribute to the well-being and sustainability of the places involved.
The Childwatch International Asia Pacific Regional Network has been exploring concepts of children's participation in the region through a collaboartive research project in Australia, China, Thailand, India and Sri Lanka. The results are available in the recently published book "Children’s Participation? Learning from Children and Adults in the Asia-Pacific Region", edited by Jan Mason, Natalie Bolzan and Anil Kumar.
Journal of Community Practice invite proposals that address aspects of social development and social work in Africa and their relevance to other regions of the world, especially innovative approaches to reducing poverty and vulnerability. This special issue highlights development-oriented work going on in Africa.
The Childwatch International Board has recently invited members of the network and partners to submit proposals for funding of networking activities.
CODESRIA is announcing its 2010 Child and Youth Studies Institute: The Place for Work in African Childhoods. Interested scholars are invited to send applications for consideration for selection as laureates and resource persons in the session scheduled for September 2010. Professor Michael Bourdillon is Director of the 2010 session on childhood and work in Africa.
The Childwatch International network is developing a resource page for research based knowledge on children in emergencies. Current and future humanitarian relief work needs to learn from past experiences and knowledge about children in societies in distress and under reconstruction. Research articles, reference lists and relevant NGO and IGO links are gathered to inform these processes. The resource page is a work in progress.

The aim of the conference was to inform thinking and practices around key issues and trends related to adolescent girls.
A brief report on Childwatch International network activities between the two most recent Key Institutions Assemblies has been published on our web site. It describes an array of different activities, involving partners from all corners of the world.
The recent Children's Rights at a Cross-Roads conference gathered child rights and research experts from all across the world, representing a range of sectors involved in child rights related issues. One of the main conclusions of the conference was that there is need for a greater focus on indigenous research on children and their rights, carried out by researchers in national and local academic institutions.
The Childwatch International Key Institutions Assembly is coming up, and the background documents have now been made available on the network web site. The Agenda can be downloaded, so can minutes from the last Assembly plus all Board meetings.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child came into force 20 November 20 years ago. The Convention has contributed to a greater focus on the well-being and dignity of children, or the lack of such. The upcoming conference Children's Rights at a Cross-Roads gives an opportunity to look at the role of research in the implementation processes around the globe.
A new Board is to be elected at the Childwatch International Key Institutions Assembly, 3 - 4 December 2009. The deadline for the Call for Nominations has extended until November 6th, to allow all Key Institutions to nominate suitable candidates.
Childwatch International takes advantage of the highly relevant and timely Children's Rights at a Cross-Roads Conference, and organizes its tri-annual Key Institutions Assembly in Addis Ababa during two days following the global conference. The events take place 30 November - 2 December and 3 - 4 December respectively. The Conference and Assembly web sites have opened for registering participation. Deadline for both events is 6 November.
