Symposium and Consultancy in East Africa

A symposium organized by Department of Educational Psychology at the Kenyatta University in November 2003 brought together researchers from the East African region and gave an opportunity to discuss emerging child research and rights issues in the region.

A consultancy by Irene Rizzini and Per Egil Mjaavatn to the Department of Educational Psychology at the Kenyatta University in November 2003 spurred the network's support for the regional collaboration. In November 2003 Dr. Frederick Okatcha and his colleagues organized a symposium on Children and Youth in East Africa, with invited colleagues from Kenyatta University and the Univeristy of Nairobi as well as Kenyan NGO representatives. Childwatch International sponsored the participation of child researchers from the University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania and Makerere University of Kampala, Uganda. The proceedings can be downloaded as a pdf file here>>

Based on this symposium, the network elaborated a collaborative research project proposal on the state of children affected by HIV/AIDS economically challenged societies for which they are currently seeking funding. The project proposal can be downloaded here>>

The network participated in the Childhoods 2005 Oslo conference, within the session Growing up in an era of AIDS.
