The Childwatch International Research Network disseminates every month an online newsletter with the latest news on child research; publications, news, conferences, events, including the latest news from our Key Institutions. 

Childwatch International links local, regional and national research efforts to an international research based knowledge, practice and policy on children’s issues. Items of Interest

  • COMMITTEE ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD: New members elected On 18 December, States met in New York to elect nine members to serve on the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child. The successful candidates will replace those whose term will expire on 28 February 2013. The nine candidates elected to the CRC are from: Austria, Bahrain, Brazil, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Italy, Malaysia, Russia, and Slovakia.  Read more...
  • European Master in Social Work with Families and Children. This Erasmus Mundus MFAMILY is a two year master programme of 120 ECTS. Students will spend a semester each in Lisbon, Stavanger and Gothenburg before moving to the desired partner institution to work on their master’s thesis. The language of instruction for the programme is English. Upon completion of the programme, students will be awarded a joint degree by the consortium. Read more...

  • Launch of the new book Cross-Cultural Child Research: Ethical Issues on January 11th 2013.  The book launch was arranged and hosted by the Norwegian Centre for Child Research, NTNU. Hallvard Fossheim, Director of The National Research Ethics Committee for the Social Sciences and Humanities (NESH),  opened the launch, followed by a brief presentation by Anne Trine Kjørholt, commented by Allison James.   •  Cross-Cultural Child Research: Ethical Issues. Research on and with children in cross-cultural contexts presents several challenges—concerning consent, methodology, risk and responsibility. In the volume Cross-Cultural Child Research, experienced researchers share their reflections on these issues. The book is published by the Norwegian National Research Ethics Committees. The book launch is arranged by the hosted by the Norwegian Centre for Child Research, NTNU. Read more...

 


Research Reports

  • The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child: A Study of Legal Implementation in 12 Countries. UNICEF UK has published The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child: a study of legal implementation in 12 countries, which looks in countries beyond the UK in order to compile evidence of the most effective and impactful ways of embedding children’s rights into domestic law. The 12 countries (Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, Spain, Sweden) were chosen to demonstrate the variety of ways in which different places have provided for children’s rights at the national level by taking steps to implement the Convention. The research was led by Professor Laura Lundy, Director of the Centre for Children’s Rights at Queen’s University Belfast ( www.qub.ac.uk/ccr), collaborating with Professor Ursula Kilkelly at University College Cork.   • South African Child Gauge 2012. The South African Child Gauge is the only publication in the country that provides an annual snap-shot of the status of South Africa’s children. It is published by the Childwatch key institute: Children’s Institute, University of Cape Town. The publication tracks South Africa’s progress towards realising children’s rights.   • Equity For Children Talks with Dr. Jo Boyden. In this EFC Talks, Dr. Jo Boyden, Director, Young Lives, Oxford University, speaks about her views on equity for children and public policy, specifically as it relates to UNICEF programming. She elaborates on the necessity to focus on research that highlights growing concerns regarding inequality and inequity. This was held at the brainstorming meeting 'Putting Equity for Children on the Local Agenda: Limits and Challenges' that took place on October 1, 2012 at The New School. Read more...
