Australian Institute of Family Studies
The Australian Institute of Family Studies (the Institute) is an Australian Government statutory agency in the portfolio of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. It was established in February 1980 under the Australian Family Law Act 1975.The role of the Institute is to conduct research and communicate findings to policy makers, service providers and the broader community about factors that affect family wellbeing. As the Government’s principal source of specialist research expertise on families, the Institute undertakes research and analysis about four factors affecting family wellbeing: Family relationships, Children, youth and patterns of care, Families and work, Families and community life.
