Uni-Com Congress and Childwatch Latin American Conference Report.

On the 16th and 17th of September a series of Latin American conferences and seminars on Quality of Life in Latin America and the Caribbean organised by Uni-Com at Faculty of Social Sciences at the Universidad Nacional de Lomas de Zamora took place. Read about the event here

On September 16th and 17th, the Faculty of Social Sciences of the National University of Lomas de Zamora, Argentina, welcomed the II UNI-COM LATINAMERICAN CONFERENCE: QUALITY OF LIFE IN LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN,  the IX CHILDWATCH INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH NETWORK LATINAMERICAN CONFERENCE and the IV CONFERENCE OF THE RESEARCH PROGRAM IN QUALITY OF LIFE.

 

Over 200 people attended the two day conference, consisting of 3 conferences, 4 panels with 12 members and 5 sessions with 30 abstracts, one workshop and a film screening.

 

In attendance were university professors, university students, researchers, professionals, authorities and students in their doctoral or master thesis stage, in the fields of quality of life and youth and childhood, coming from Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, United States, Jamaica, India and from different universities of Argentina .

The meeting of the Latin American and the Caribbean Childwatch Network took place on September, 17th with the presence of Norma del Río Lugo (Programa Infancia, UAM, México), Irene Rizzini (CIESPI-PUC Rio, Brazil), Ofelia Roldán Vargas and Ligia López Moreno (CINDE, Colombia) Gloria López and María Fernanda Rodriguez (CENDIF, UNIMET, Venezuela), Julie Meeks (Caribbean Child Development Centre, Jamaica) Ricardo Fletes Corona (Guadalajara University, México), Danielle Strikland (CODENI, México), Maria de los Ángeles Torres (University of Illinois at Chicago, USA) y Graciela Tonon (UNI-COM, Lomas de Zamora National University, Argentina).

The conference closed with the presentation of the film When home is the street, a work that shows the reality of young people who live in the streets of different cities of Latin America and also remarks the possibilities of resilience in relation with QOL. The film was edited by colleagues from Mexico and Brazil.
